Infection Control Policy

Safety first: BCL follows current infection-prevention practices (including COVID-19 and seasonal illnesses) with screened staff, hygiene protocols, and flexible visit options. We keep clients and staff safe with practical, up-to-date measures.

Staff Health & Safety
  • Health screening and vaccination compliance is mandatory
  • Annual influenza vaccination strongly encouraged
  • Respirator fit-testing and fit-checking performed where required
  • Staff receive initial and annual refresher training on infection control
  • Regular audits of staff practice conducted, with corrective actions taken
Workplace & Visitor Policy
  • “Stay home if unwell” policy applies to all staff and visitors
  • Pre-visit health screening completed for staff, clients, and carers
  • Clients and families receive education on hygiene practices and illness reporting
  • Hand hygiene performed before, during, and after all care tasks
  • PPE (gloves, masks, eye protection, gowns) selected according to task risk
  • Source control: masks offered to anyone coughing or unwell
  • Enhanced cleaning routines for high-touch surfaces
  • Clinical waste and sharps disposed of safely in appropriate containers
  • Linen handled in separate bags and hot-wash protocols followed
  • Equipment cleaned, disinfected, or sterilised between clients
  • Standard and transmission-based precautions applied based on risk
  • Single-client use kits for wound care and invasive procedures
  • Aseptic technique used for IV, PEG, and catheter care
  • Respiratory etiquette promoted, with tissues disposed of safely
  • Indoor areas ventilated with fresh air during and after visits
  • Outbreak response plans and escalation pathways followed when required
  • Telehealth or low-contact options offered when suitable
  • All infection-control measures documented in the client’s care record
